Viroqua singer/songwriters Christina Dollhausen, Shawn Neary, and Douglas Detrick will each play a set of music in a Songwriters Circle concert at Arkadia on October 16, 2026. Assembled by Detrick, this group of like-minded artists will each sing original songs in 25 minute sets with two intermissions. Each artist will have a guest artist or two joining in, and may unite as a trio for a collaborative song at the end of the show. Listeners can expect a diverse range of music with deep feeling, all in a relaxed yet focused listening environment.
About the artists
Christina Dollhausen, (The Iowans, Loosey Stone) is a songwriter, an Iowan farmer’s daughter, and can’t remember a time when she hasn’t been chasing a song. With a powerful honey-alto voice and a self-taught guitar style, Christina has been described as a musical chameleon - moving a song along wherever it wants to go. A 2026 Iowa City Songwriter Festival Scholar, Christina is a creative community catalyst, and a longtime musician in the Driftless music scene. See Christina with The Iowans playing at Stoughton Opera House in this video. She’ll be joined by mandolinist David Bruce on a few songs.
Shawn Neary (Cloud Cult) is a son of the Middle West, and his songs are of the same stock, inspired by his heroes Low and Greg Brown, his music has been described as “slow burning Americana” by folks who write these kinds of phrases. Hear his song “nOnEWnORMAL” here. Drummer Louis Kemp will join Shawn’s set.
Douglas Detrick, a newcomer to the midwest, is a banjoist and singer whose first life in music was as a jazz trumpeter and composer, where he won the Chamber Music America New Jazz Works grant and toured throughout the country. More recently, his music bridges traditional clawhammer banjo with colorful harmony and intricate rhythms drawn from his jazz background. Hear Douglas’s song “I Was Light” here.
