Our beloved building, once known as The Ark and later as The Commons, has been renamed Arkadia in 2025. The term Arkadia, a place name in ancient Greece which evolved into an archetype often used in Classical and Renaissance literature, has come to symbolize a pastoral paradise of peace, simplicity, and contentment. Arkadia represents an idyllic, unspoiled land free from the complexities of urban life. We feel that the name Arkadia strongly recalls the reason why many people love the Driftless region. We love that Arkadia emphasizes the beauty of rural and pastoral living, upholding the idealism and altruism of a life inspired by nature. Our hope is that these ideals will inform and inspire all that lives in our building.
